I need a recipe for 5 blackening bananas which can't cope with the heat much longer. I really don't want to make banana bread, or an alcoholic drink. Desserts are good.

Mush them up with a whizzy thing, or, failing that, a fork and then a whisk. Add other fruit similarly treated, or really nice fruit juice, or milk and (very little) brown sugar. Drink.

You can add cocoa too for an extra thick chocobanana shake.

Fried banana with icecream. Peel cut lenghtwise, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar before frying in butter. Add hot bananas to icecream.

Or peel and slice banana, freeze slices. Take out a few banana slices and add to milk and flavourings in blender/smoothie maker as low chalorie icecream substitute when making milkshakes. If you can stand banana flavoured milkshake. The banana serves as a thickener.

When I can't save them, and can't use them, I sometimes slice them (or chunk them if they're squishy) and freeze the chunks until I can use them. They can be frozen in the peel, too (for cooking) but are a pain to deal with afterwards, that way.

I'm planning on trying this one later, for the exact same reason, which is supposed to make four desserts:
Grate the rind of one orange, and squeeze out half the juice. Mash up two bananas and mix with the rind and juice. Fold into 200g greek yoghurt and 250g fromage frais (low fat if you like). Spoon into four small glasses and let chill for 20 minutes.
The recipe says to decorate them with the seeds of two passion fruits (or kiwi) and drizzle a teaspoon of honey over each one, but that's open to interpretation, I reckon.

AUNTY BETHEL'S BANANA CAKE

100 g/4oz butter
small cup sugar (measure 1 cup of sugar then shake a little bit out)
1 egg
2 ripe, mashed bananas
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
2 Tablespoons cold milk

Preheat oven to 350F/180C. Grease a 20cm/8" square cake pan and line it with paper. (It also pays to grease the paper.) Cream the butter and sugar. Add egg and bananas and mix well. Sift in the flour and bakibg powder and mix well. Dissolve soda in milk and add to batter. Mix well to combine. Pour batter into prepared cake pan and bake at 350F/180C for 30-50 mins, or until
a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean. Ice when cold if desired.
