When I bite the inside of my cheek, should I be (a) scolded for my stupidity, (b) told not to cry because it's my own fault, or (c) ignored?

In my family it would have been teased and told you're supposed to bite the food, not yourself, but with warm smiles and hugs ....

Ditto - "That's not a good idea!" but with a smile, not meanly.

Ditto. We ask Bridget if her mouth tasted good, and when she says "no" then we ask her "Then why did you bite it if it's not yummy?"

Mind you, that's just kind of how we are as a family. Teasing is done in love (and is also stopped if it is truly distressing the teasee).

Here, there might be a "oh silly billy, that's why we tell you not to do that" with a hug and a kiss better. Did it tonight actually.
