When I bite the inside of my cheek, should I be (a) scolded for my stupidity, (b) told not to cry because it's my own fault, or (c) ignored?

Cuddled, if you're upset?

(b) told not to cry because it's my own fault

Oh my goodness, that's horrible! Because crying isn't for expressing a hurt, it's for getting other people into trouble or something? There's no universe in which that makes sense!

In my family it would have been teased and told you're supposed to bite the food, not yourself, but with warm smiles and hugs ....

Ditto - "That's not a good idea!" but with a smile, not meanly.

Ditto. We ask Bridget if her mouth tasted good, and when she says "no" then we ask her "Then why did you bite it if it's not yummy?"

Mind you, that's just kind of how we are as a family. Teasing is done in love (and is also stopped if it is truly distressing the teasee).

Here, there might be a "oh silly billy, that's why we tell you not to do that" with a hug and a kiss better. Did it tonight actually.

*hugged* and given sympathy cos it really hurts when that happens.

Adults do it too, well I do, my partner does - sympathies to Linnea she's only little and she's growing so much that it's harder for her to know where bits of her body really are...

Can I vote "None of the above"?

Admittedly, when Darrell does it, I may possibly point and laugh a tiny bit, but that's because it's Darrell...

Um. None of the above? Sympathised with and cuddled. Accidents happen.

Comforted and mocked. From my limited experience. Possibly the 'mocked' is not so much 'should' as 'will'.

Cuddled, sympathised with, told (gently, with a smile) that that was a bit silly.

Most suitable reaction depends on context, but none of the options you list look very appealing...

Oh FFS. I do that all the time, and it's BLOODY SORE; the appropriate reaction is a little-known trick called SYMPATHY. Bah. Stupid people.
