Well, he asked them what they intended to do about the fact that he's been interrupted four times while on paternity leave, and they've given him an extra 7.5 hours' leave. With his annual leave and accrued TOIL, he now has 21¼ days to take before 31 December. This will be mentioned to his manager, because he also has more out of hours work to do, which will mean more TOIL.

When I managed a department of 8 people plus me, I kept a close eye on their leave, because it was important to ensure that they all *took* it, and that they didn't all take it at *once*. It wasn't hard once I'd developed a system. Perhaps I should explain the system to someone.

I'm still simmering.

Looks like he could just add a full month to the end of the pat leave, and with the times they call him back in he'd have more to take, and wouldn't need to do more than an occasional full day until after christmas.
I'm not sure 7.5 hours covers what he's done while he's supposed to have been off? Pat leave must be worth double normal, to anybody rational.

I need to use up 12.5 days before the end of Sept...

I think Rob has the same issue as my DH, the inability to say "No". I would turn the phone off or let an answerphone get it.

WRT the holiday is he going tobe able to use it properly without interruption. If not it might be worth him starting the conversations about why don't you buy back some of this holiday from me.

Oh and here is a *SLAP* from me to his manager

indeed - and don't you dare even dream of explaining your system, without first getting a consultancy contract with them... *g*

Over a year ago I was promoted within the school (equivalent to assistant head, but with no teaching commitment) and found out in the September that all the extra hours I had had to do during the summer hols (since I am on a 52 weeks contract with only 5 weeks hols) could no longer count as overtime ... but had to be done as TOIL. I already had 1 1/2 weeks to carry over as it was ... and now I had another 1 1/2 weeks too ...

This year I have only managed to take 3 1/2 weeks out of the 5 ... and none of the TOIL.

This is my cock-up and I am trying to make sure it doesn't happen again.

However, the team are worse than me. I had to send people home during the summer as they were not going to take all their hols ... and I am having to put in a rota of time when *someone* from the team has to be on holiday. They get up to 2 weeks to have off during term time out of their 5 weeks and this year they will flippin well take it!
