The Big Girlie Shoe Post
Apr. 4th, 2006 09:00 pmI have new sandals! Gobi on this page, in "triple blue" strap colour. They are so incredibly comfortable I might die. I hope they still are in a week's time. The shop where I bought them measured me feet - something Clarks have refused to do in this town - and gave me a little lecture on the changes to the bone structure of feets in pregnancy, which was nice as it showed they knew what they were talking about.
The sandals support my feet beautifully. They are lovely to my arches, have adequate toespace so that my little toes aren't squashed, don't chafe the broken and badly set second toe on my left foot, don't slide around on my feet when I run, have air-padded heels, and a guarantee.
I will be having these guys fit my next pair of winter shoes, which are likely to be some kind of walking shoe or boot too. I haven't had shoes that fit this well since I was a kid. They measured the distance from my heel to the ball of my foot and there to my toes seperately. They took width measurements. They made me walk around in the sandals while they looked at my feet at ground level to check the fit.
I was very glad I'd cut my toenails recently, and to my shame I was pleased I'd shaved my legs a while ago; my leg hair grows more slowly in pregnancy so they are not very carthorselike at the moment.
And they come with a water resistant carry bag, which will almost certainly do duty as Yet Another Messy Sack For The Nappy Bag in due course.
And I will cheerfully wear them with a skirt or trousers. And it's already mostly above 10C/50F outside so it's not too cold for sandals.
Happy dance!

Date: 2006-04-04 08:31 pm (UTC)I have decided I am far too old, and walk far too many miles to wear anything other than sensible and well fitting shoes, which means hiking boots in winter and sports sandally things the rest of the time. But Derbyshire IS definitely still too cold, at present for sandals. Maybe next week...

Date: 2006-04-04 08:34 pm (UTC)DMs used to be wide enough for my toes, and with insoles supportive enough for my arches. But as pregnancy spread spreads 'em, they become less useful... and besides, I've never had them *professionally fitted*.
It's not a shoe-shop. It's an Outdoor Sports shop. Tents, camping stoves, surfboards, rockclimbing gear, etc. And footwear.

Date: 2006-04-05 08:01 am (UTC)There was frost on the bicycle this morning, so I am not that hopeful, despite what Tony says about fractal seasons.

Date: 2006-04-04 09:19 pm (UTC)As it is, I have this terrible phobia of having my toes eaten by a dog, or stung by a wasp I didn't see. Yes, the inside of my head is a funny place, why do you ask? ;)

Date: 2006-04-04 09:23 pm (UTC)Pregnancy has really aged my poor ole feets. I'm glad I found them someone to look after them.

Date: 2006-04-05 07:58 am (UTC)The Josef Siebel ones that I got last year *look* like sensible and comfortable things to wear on my feet, but they really don't live up to their looks.

Date: 2006-04-05 08:08 am (UTC)My Josef Seibel also *look* sensible, and were fine for very minor activity, but totally inadequate for toddler-chasing. Plus they no longer fit properly.

Date: 2006-04-05 08:15 am (UTC)The JS ones are fine for half a mile or so then they decide that I really need a blister just *there* and one *there* too for good measure.
