I am an idiot so I got up and helped Emer make a snowman and shoveled the snow from a neighbour's doorstep and sulked about my boots from before lunchtime until after the kids were in bed before I asked Rob to help me get them off.

I also painted a painting.

And I'm designing vast drum lightshades -- two of them -- 50cm radius 15-20 cm high. That's pi metres of fabric to paint for the shades. I'm trying to work out what I want to do with them. I have too many ideas.

I've just realised that it's probably ESSENTIAL to measure in metres our bookshelf space. Not the space we have, the space we need - so everything in use right now plus all the stacks of books in the wrong places laid on the table between bookends and measured.

Pinterest is far more useful than I'd imagined.

It's just a way to stick pictures on a web page, like a cork memo board. Except, of course, that a picture could be a link to something more informative, and people can comment on each other's pictures, re-pin (copy) them, etc. One has several "boards", ie files, so the stuff can be sorted or categorised.

I find it useful to aid visual thinking. I do a mixture of (1) looking at everything on the website in a certain category - loft conversions, for example, or protest signs - and re-pinning the ones I find interesting or useful, and (2) pinning products I find on other websites to specific boards of mine, such as "Ideas: Home organisation" which is where I repinned the thing about storing hair elastics on a D-clip like on keyrings or climbing ropes.

I have lots of home improvement boards, and then there are things for the children to do, art, Lego and places accessible by public transport. Eclectic but not random.
