Emer has a cold in her chest and her eyes. And her nose, less so. Linnea has been waking hungry in the early mornings but is otherwise well. I have a thrush or throstle (I love the word throstle) and am wearing skirts, which I could do without. Today I have a BfN class and then we're going on a 2-hour train-trip to stay with the in-laws overnight.

I really hope Emer's up to it. Still, at least it's not a car trip, she said, clutching at straws.

And we can give them their Christmas presents, and the food will be good.

But poor ole Emer is not doing very well at all. By my standards. Other kids just as unwell are regularly left at nurseries and childminders and schools, though, so perhaps I'm a bit precious.

Grnf.

(Rob had, I believe, less sleep than I did, and still made me coffee before he left for work. Last night was my turn to sleep, you see - the night before was his turn.)

Holls stays at home if she's unwell, but it must be hard if both parents are working & have limited availablity of time to take off. I may have this issue if I get a job in a school & Kate & Holls are ill.

I've got in the habit of never using up my annual leave, so I can 'afford' to take a day or two off if Charles needs it (as, depressingly, he does).

We do sometimes let him go to his childminder J when he's not completely well, because we know she will take care of him, and adapt the day's activities to what he's up to, and she's juggling at most three children, all similarly-aged. We do tell her - in borderline cases we ring her before setting out. J is also good at telling us when he's not himself, and I've learned to trust her assessment.

My husband also leaves annual leave free to cover for me if I'm ill. He had to take a whole week off work last winter as I caught flu (must have been nearly a year ago now) & was in bed all week.

One of the childminded kids this morning at toddler group wasn't his usual cheerful self, so he must be coming down with something, poor love :/
