I like cooking and eating good food. But I think it's something I only like if I am already feeling fairly with-it and energetic. Or someone other than me will eat it and remark on it; I hate food that just gets eaten and forgotten in seconds. Or ignored.

So this evening we had beans and eggs and mushrooms and onions instead of proper dinner. At least I'm encouraging Linnea to like mushrooms; Rob and I both dislike them (he dislikes them, I find they make me gag) so it would be simplest never to have them.

Emer quite liked the raw ones they had in their lunches today but wasn't impressed with the fried ones.

Ugh. Mushrooms. Yuck.

It took me years and years to learn to tolerate mushrooms - what helped was starting with the firmer-textured, more flavourful ones like Shiitake rather than the standard white/grey supermarket ones.

I'm always worried about Shiitake mushrooms.. I always worry about anything that almost looks as though it's designed to cause constipation..

Rhiannon can't remember whether or not she likes mushrooms - she eats them in something like Spaghetti Bolognaise, but will pick them off a pizza. Eleri dumps them straight over the side of the highchair.

Eleri does not like pasta. Rhiannon would have it at every meal.

don't torture yourself. mushrooms aren't exactly the height of nutrition . if you and Rob don't like them, leave the kids to discover them for themselves later. like when thye're not with parents desperately trying to hide how much they hate them!
i can't smell a banana without gagging, but my kids eat them all the time.

The kids and me like really fresh raw mushrooms, when they were toddlers/babies I used to give them a raw mushroom going around the supermarket if they were good. If they were really good they got a couple of grapes and the crust from the bread. I'm sure they learned this liking from me or because no one ever told them they were 'horrible', just as I'm sure they initially learn how nice 'sweeties' are because people give them as treats.

You can't like everything, I did try not to visibly gag on things such as brussels sprouts, if I wanted the kids to try them though :)
