Linnea is NOT HAPPY with waking up in the morning and going to bed in the morning. I wasn't there for the argument but I heard the ensuing wildness through the ceiling. Rob left the room and turned the light out an hour ago; she's still intermittently making thumping noises.

I shall have to explain that sometimes the moon comes out in the daytime and sometimes the sun is still out at night. And try to find a decent book with pictures of why.

We're going to get her a globe for her birthday, anyway - one with blue sea, because she doesn't like our tiny one with white sea. I'm not sure what else to look for in a globe for a small child.

I explained it to Ali tonight by telling him the time.
He said "it's not late, look" and I said "oh it is, it's very late, but it is still bright out because the summer is coming.. look at the clock, it's nearly 8 o'clock and it's time for bed.. like in the Wee Willie Winky song .. are all the children in their beds, it's past 8 o'clock."

And he lay down and was asleep in under 10 minutes. :-D

I would hate to start explaining things to him from a scientific point of view... but Linnea is that bit older, I suppose.

Yeah, last year we basically said "It's bedtime, look," and pulled the blackouts, and she believed it was really night. We were just home after a long unsettled period, so she woke a lot, but she did believe it was nighttime.

I think I am trying to break the association with bedtime and darkness though. He seemed happy with my explanation. And once he is asleep.. he is ASLEEP. Ayesha woke 30 minutes later and tried to crawl out of the room and was screaming and crying.. not a budge out of Ali.
Took him long enough, mind.

Funnily, Linnea sleeps in a tent just fine. And goodness knows they're bright in the evening. But in her bedroom she likes it dusky.
