5 things make a post
May. 19th, 2009 11:10 pmONE.
We went to Ikea in Southampton and it was an easy train trip there and back, and we bought many marvellous things. Linnea was allowed into the OFSTED-certified supervised play area but Emer wasn't, because she is not yet three. After we came back, Rob and I used four new magazine files to sort out a lot of the paperwork and paper supplies in the dining room. It's much tidier now, though no less crowded.
TWO.
Today we did very little. Dinner was from-the-freezer shepherd's pie, so I had the day to tidy up and rest. The children watched television all morning and bickered a lot, partially from tiredness and partially from overtelevisionness. I ironed The Biggest Tablecloth In The World, which took ninety minutes, and have now put it away, which isn't possible unironed.
THREE.
We played Scrabble this evening - Rob opened the game with MESDAMES for eighty points, and we were all pleased with our scores at the end. I'm having much more fun since I stopped playing against certain of my friends who were encouraging me to play better. Kitchen-table is where it's at, for Scrabble in my life.
Not that it's not fun to play a really good game once in a while, but it wasn't a good habit.
FOUR.
We have a jar of Xylitol crystals and no idea what to do with them. They are "for" Emer's teeth, but two days running she has allowed us to brush her teeth without complaint - in fact, with cooperation! So I wonder whether they are already healing up a bit and remineralising, as the dentist said they would. I'm open to suggestions for the Xylitol; I assume it's a laxative, like maltitol and sorbitol, so we won't be making big cakes out of it.
FIVE.
We need to figure something out for our compost. The worms aren't capable of handling our dramatic biodegradable waste. I think that now we have a plastic garden store we might have to give in and get a Bokashi bin to complement the wormery.
And of course we need to empty our old garden-waste compost bin and turn it over and see what of it is good for future use.
SIX.
Oh, I did have things to witter about. Well. In IKEA mum and I saw a bathroom sink which would be perfect for our needs - it's long and shallow, same depth all the way along, rectangular, and would be ideal for two children to stand at to brush their teeth, or one baby to bath in, even if it was a long baby like Linnea, so I'm going to see whether we can use Rob's computer to make a mock-up of a bathroom on the IKEA website soon.
These things always crash my laptop. But after bathroom, it's wardrobes. PAX includes a shallow one which would use the alcove spaces either side of the disused chimneys.
SEVEN.
We are well on the way to having a family holiday in June; Rob has been granted leave, we just need to book things like train tickets. And dig out the tent, make sure it doesn't leak, etc. Just the four of us, by the seaside, with only us and no extended family of an kind at all, no fanclubs or social groups or anything. Even if it pours rain the whole time we'll enjoy it. And that's not likely anyway.
I don't think Emer remembers camping. Linnea does. She loves it.
I want to go so much, I'm afraid something will happen to stop us.
