At Home

I do love a day at home. We don't get many of them. Emer is napping, Linnea is painting at her easel, I am researching bathroom suites. When we get the trike back we can go to B&Q and look around, also the other places like Wickes and Homebase. The main thing I want is a bath. If we had a decent bath with space for a shower we'd be laughing. After that, replacing the sink would be trivial; I want to change the end of the bath that has the taps, though, so that's major, at least for us.

And with any luck at all, by the end of January, all our hot water will be solar heated. I'd really, really like to get the major bathroom changes done before that point in case the plumbing proves complicated.

And then there's tiling. I'm not bad at tiling but I'm not sure the children will allow me to do it. Rob means well but he's frankly rubbish at tiling and we have the lopsided leaky-grout tiles to prove it. I think I may have to acquire childcare while I tile; this will probably be cheaper than paying someone to do it.

Isn't it strange in the grand scheme of things that it is cheaper to find someone to take care of our children -- presumably the most precious things in our lives -- than it is to pay someone to put in tile...

universal quibble of the week.

Mary Ellyn
