The [livejournal.com profile] bbcmetreading says that today we'll have 8h15m of daylight. Things are looking up, then. It's going to be spring and them summer. So I've been checking the interwebs for nursing dresses, something I do periodically. It's very disheartening. I want to be able to wear dresses I enjoy. "Discrete" breastfeeding isn't my main goal; I'm aiming for possible. But "Discrete" is what's on sale, and as a result all the dresses are demure, American, and made entirely of petrol. Even the European natural fibre ones are incredibly demure. I donwanna be demure.

There's a Swedish company called Boob selling dresses but I can't find anywhere stocking more than one style.

There's always the option of buying only dresses with buttons down the front but that's so damn fiddly. Really. I've been breastfeeding for two years and almost nine months now and I haven't the oomph for fiddly.

On another topic entirely, I have three months left to write my official complaint to the hospital about Linnea's birth and the state it's left me in. But I can't do it. If anyone out there wants a bit of freelance writing work, I'll pay you to read up the birth story and have a look at my notes, and write me a nice, detailed, official letter of complaint, which I will send to everyone I can think of. But no messin', because this deadline is incredibly serious.

I can't help with writing... but Dresses, possibly.

What about wrap dresses? They are not demure, and it's easy to get to one's breasts in them. They are quite the rage here right now, as are faux wrap dresses which are secured at the waist but have that crossover top that's easy to pull away.

If I was in the UK I would definately offer - but unfortunately I aint, and this is something where I suspect you actually NEED to read the papers etc. HOWEVER I do have a friend who does ocassional free lance writing who is based in Cambridge. Do you want me to see if she is interested?

I can't give you a firm answer without having read your story and notes, and I'm not sure I could come up with more than a draft, but I'm willing to look at it.

What kind of dresses would you like wearing if it wasn't a question of being able to nurse in them? The Boob dresses look nice, but in a 'nice' way - is that the 'demure' you're talking about?

I sent a dress off the to charity shop last summer - it was okay for nursing because it was button-through. It could in no way be called demure, as the buttons needed absolutely no encouragement to undo themselves. The vicar coughed at me subtly one communion so I could do them up before the servers got an eyeful...

http://tinyurl.com/wb8yx ?

The only dress I ever used to breastfeed in was actually a petticoat - didn't need a bra under it as it automatically gave support but was easy enough to get out of :) (I used to wear it with a vest or light top over it to avoid flashing : ) )

Canadian dollars, so not too expensive really. And I don't think one could accuse the "Nursing tank dress" of being demure :)

Oh, or a dress that has a dungaree-style bib top. I used to have one and I just wore a Bravado bra under it. But it wasn't mine - I'd done a swap with a friend and eventually we swapped back.

I can do the complaint letter for you. I do good complaint letters and I don't need paying (but I will do it properly and on time).

I think me going back to work is going to result in me being less tired and Tony more so.

I don't think I've seen your birth story in full, rather pieced it together from things you have mentioned.

My address is is here for sending me the notes, and whatever info you already have from the hospital about complaints procedures (I can dig up anything else if necessary).

Looks as though you have plenty of volunteers, but I'd also be more than willing to write your complaint letter (or indeed to proofread before you send it). No pay, other than plenty of opportunities to play with your children :-)
