It's my birthday
Nov. 1st, 2006 08:58 pmToday I am 28 and my mother is 65. And Linnea is 2½ years old and Emer is 2½ months old.
Gosh.
28 has been a significant age for me for 12 years now. It feels odd to have attained it at last.
I was woken this morning (not counting the 1am or 5 am baby wakings, or the 7 am and 7:15 alarm clocks) at about 8, by Linnea and Rob presenting me with presents. Linnea made me a butterfly and Rob gave me an MP3 player. Then I had a bath and got dressed in previously unworn second-hand maternity trousers (pink corduroy, would you believe?) and we all went to Tigglers Togglers. My throat is painful but no longer obviously full of boils or volcanos or small warring South American nations or whatever was wrong yesterday.
Rob triked us to Tigglers, and we had a pleasant time. Then we triked to Wagamama and had our lunch (my breakfast) and then we pootled. We went to Debenhams for bibs for Emer, and to Toys R Us because Linnea wanted to go to a toyshop and play, and to H&M because I wanted to buy Emer a hat (should have brought one with us) and ended up buying them each a hat. We had coffee in Starbucks and it was all very very relaxed and lovely.
Then we came home and had leftovers for dinner, which was nice and low-stress, and Emer and Linnea are asleep now. I've opened my birthday cards and am wearing a brash red badge which says "I've survived damn near everything!" and I've put various things on the MP3 player; I need to work out how to drive it better though. V. inexpert at present.
Thanks to those of you who've mentioned, emailed, or thought about me today. We may be going to Kew on Sunday.
