Hired Help

Right. After yet another awful day followed by a blazing row (well, half a blazing row; I blazed, Rob sat sullenly saying "I don't know" and looking miserable), I've hired help. We have a laundry service coming to collect on Thursday and a cleaner on Monday. It means that instead of getting a shiny new bike Rob will continue to cycle the trike to and from work but that's ok - the trike fits him well so it's not hurting him to cycle, and it is nice that he's more stable and more visible in the dark weather, and can pick us all up in town if we feel like it.

In other news, Linnea slept through the night last night and I made two phonecalls this morning.

I haven't brushed my teeth or hair yet, but you can't have everything. I'll get there. I have wet laundry to hang first.

A damn'd fine idea

I don't see how anyone can cope with their working day when they can't see over their laundry and as a home worker with two children H & S should definitely be a priority - what if it all toppled over onto Emer!

As Stephen Wright says - you can't have everything, where would you put it?

I hope radegund helped

You can go to bed before then on Saturday too, if you like!

I'm glad you've hired help. It's important.

Likewise. I have seen so many friends who were despairing of housework or similar, whose issues have been much reduced by a little bit of hired help.

So in the middle of all that you found the energy and the wherewithal to organize a laundry service and a cleaner? Wow.

Me three! I hope they're both satisfactory. Sorry about the row though. Our rows are just like that, btw, me blazing and DH sitting silent, too, and I hate it :-( In our case it's actually a consequence of my beneficial development I think - when we met, both of us repressed anger in an unhealthy way, now I don't and he still does! Oops. Is it possible the same is true for you (A&R)?

A cleaner is a godsend. We are 3 weeks into having one once a week, it's like a self cleaning house.

Go you - you really, really need that space and time if Rob can't provide it.

Our building management raised the prices on the coin-op washers and dryers to the point where we decided to try sending our l*undry out. Now I never run out of underwear, and [livejournal.com profile] sinboy's fingers (which are prone to severe dryness and cracking under the best of circumstances) don't get further dried out with folding clothes, and there's no more interrupting whatever else we're doing to go down to the basement again and again and again. It's pricy, but absolutely worth it.

I'm seriously considering having a housecleaner in once a month to scrub and mop and vacuum up the drifts of cat hair. Since I work at home, it's far too easy for work hours to be coopted by housework. I suspect my increase in work efficiency would more than pay for the cleaning service.

I'm very impressed by your phone-call-making, especially when distressed. Well done.
