There's an escalating scale of wanting to hurt the elder child: - pick up hard (I've done this in real life) - put down roughly (this too) - squeeze arm (yup) - shake (no) - hit (please, never)
When I get as far as "hit", I am already crying. Usually, getting as far as wanting to hit means that I start to cry and plead and quickly give up on whatever we were hoping to acheive and then get my wallet stolen. Sometimes it means I scream at her and put her in one room, maybe in front of the tv, and me in another room.
Not getting that far is really, really good. Like when I stop hitting my head on this brick wall.
Mind if I friend you? I've got a five year old and an almost two year old, and it would be a wonderful day indeed if the older one didn't drive me up the wall. Thanks for Plan Survive, by the way- it's great!

That's not a low bar that you jumped. "Not wanting to smack your child" is, in my opinion, a dangerously unreasonably high bar.
