I was woken by Emer, and went into her room (Rob tried, but was dismissed, rejected, unwanted, unloved, inadequate... Wrong Parent, in other words) and eventualyl got back to sleep again, and then was woken by my mother arriving, and did morning stuff, and got ready to go out and run errands and suddenly both children decided they wanted to come and then we got them ready but Linnea changed her mind as I was putting her socks on (socks are very tricky, I wonder when they get easy?) and so Emer and I went alone.

It was glorious. It took AGES but it was lovely. Everywhere we went she made people laugh. We were looking for braces to hold Linnea's trousers up, and we tried John Lewis and Jacksons and Mothercare and Debenhams and some other places and eventually H&M, where we got red ones, but while we were in Jacksons we saw a little girl mannequin wearing a tiny leotard and headband, and Emer said "That doll is yooge! That doll is big like me! Why him there? I want him! That a big girl doll like I a big girl. Oh, we can't buy her today. That lady laughing!"

The cash-desk lady in question at this point held onto the counter for support and bent almost double for an instant.

Emer said "Why she laughing?"

I said "Because you're funny." At which point the lady regained her composure.

We looked in John Lewis and Debenhams and Lakeland for a square cake tin, and had to have lunch out because Emer was tired ("I tired." - "We'll be in John Lewis soon." - "I can go sleep in John Lewis and make my tired go away." - ("Er, no."))

Also in John Lewis I looked for Kickers, a boot which fits Linnea's feet beautifully and which a friend had told me was on sale, and lo, they were, and they had the next size up, so Linnea's winter boots will be bright red Kickers.

Incidental purchases included Dove's Farm vitamin C for breadmaking, stripy legwarmers for Linnea, and some for me which I am hugely looking forward to wearing soon, and more hairties and hairclips, which disappear at a rate of rates. Both children also chose pocketmoney magazines with toys "free" attached, and we got some more art supplies of the kinds which occasionally run low - tracing paper, playdough.

We need to decide on a cake theme for the Hallowe'en party - one which can be done with an ill grandmother in the house - and buy the necessary icing.

This evening I sat around for ages, often under an Emer who wasn't asleep, and we watched Strictly and HIGNFY. Then I painted the front doors of the toy kitchen and helped make chicken soup starter and then Rob tripped over a wire and sailed my laptop across the room about one foot sideways and three feet down. He got the back back onto the screen, and I managed to replace a couple of the bits he had left over because he couldn't see where they fit, and lo, it works...

... but we need to work out how to get a new one. We've already committed to replacing the trike frame this month, so that's that. I can't decide which I need more.

Next laptop will have magic magnetic power supply so we can't do this again. And pop-out keyboard, and also plastic skin covering the whole damn thing so it never actually encounters oxygen (or, more to the point, slatherings of factor 50 sunscreen).

Kate still has sock issues & she's 7 (tight issues are more frustrating for both if us) Holly has the odd sock issue, but not as many as Kate.

My laptop is completely falling apart & has a barbie pink child size mouse as the click on the touch one don't work. Makes it awquard to use on the sofa now, so I mostly don't bother.

Kate & Holly bought whirly halloween toys in Asda yesterday with 2 week's worth of pocket money.
