A is for Ailbhe, whoever that is.
A is Achievement - none of that, please.
A is for Apples, especially pies.
Ailbhe is me, and I've spent some time getting attached to the name and working out what I want to be in it. It was always very uncommon, enough that I now feel affronted when I hear of someone I don't like with the name. 'S my name, grr. (Google knows it's me!)
Achievement is one of those things I used to feel obliged to want, and I've actually found that I am not interested in it, really. I grew up believing that one had to show one's worth by achieving things - things other people respect. Ick. Now I try to make sure I respect myself, and that's working much better.
Apples are fantastic. One of the best things about moving to England is that the supermarkets have a much wider variety of apples than standard boring supermarkets in Ireland, and they have been a revelation to me, who grew up on Granny Smiths, Golden Delicious, and Red Apples That Bruise Too Easily. I am also a huge fan of apple pie, made with cloves, not cinnamon, and served hot with stacks of real whipped cream. Now that I can't have cream, cold and plain is fine too.
