Potatoes, puree, pots and pans, practice, perfectionism and purpose

Potatoes are a staple food. I go from loving them to finding them boring as hell, and back again. I also spend a lot of time, seems like, correcting misconceptions about the potato famine in Ireland.

Puree is one of those things that seems like such a good idea until you actually try to feed some to a baby. However, pureed overripe mango freezes into icecubes on sticks and makes fabulous toddler ice-lollies. The pureed overripe kiwi was less successful. I really must work out how to eat all the kiwis we get these days.

Pots and pans are fun to dirty, and a pain in the neck to clean again. I hate washing pots and pans. Mostly Rob does it, which is much better, as far as I'm concerned.

Practice is something I'm not very good at but would like to work on. I tend to do things right first time or not at all. This is due to excessive attachment to...

Perfectionism: If a thing is worth doing, it's worth doing well, so if you don't have time to do it well, don't do it at all. This is why it took me three years to learn how to keep house consistently rather than intermittently.

Purpose is something I used to think I needed - a purpose, a goal, a direction. Now I'm quite comfortable having no clear idea where I'm going. This is largely because I have arrived at my main ambition - I'm raising children, whcih is the only thing I've always wanted to do other than read and write. Everything else has been subject to mood and whim.

I really must work out how to eat all the kiwis we get these days.

Kiwis - we get tons in our organic box and I was stumped by them until I started making smoothies out of kiwi, banana, fresh ginger and enough orange juice to make it runny enough to drink. Gorgeous.

I *intended* to make smoothies but never actually did. We have ginger somewhere.
