Linnea took a long nap today and woke hot. She has an underarm temperature of 38.6C (which is about 101F I think) and is extremely subdued.

Neither of us can remember when you need to call a doctor with a temperature, so we called NHS Direct. I got through to an actual adviser first time! So no-one needed to call me back. That was amazing. We ruled out meningitis, convulsions, a few other things, and decided on paracetemol and drinks as a treatment, which is what I hoped but wasn't sure of.

Linnea is unwell so often that almost all our infant paracetemol is out of date. We had to borrow some from IzMum and warn them that Linnea has developed this illness, because they have a 3-day-old infant who was visiting us for a while today. Linnea didn't get very close to the infant though. Cute infant :)

I expect she'll sleep more. She went out more than usual today - to Rhyme Time at the library, where she probably infected about 35 children, and for a couple of long walks. Lately she's been going to bed about 11:30 most nights. It might be earlier tonight.

She'll be sleeping with me. I'm not awfully well myself, but I can provide her with fully digestible fluids on demand, and that's important when she's not well. It's a bit irritating because I want to snuggle up in a sweltering heap of quilts and blankets, and that's incompatible with cosleeping.

In other news, Rob's interview went well and he looked very pretty indeed in his new suit. And we got rid of his desk for a price the buyer seemed ashamed to be paying, frankly, but we were glad to get rid of it.

40.5C is, I believe, the official 'oh shit' temperature.

Mega bonus points for having a blog post that borrows from Suzanne Vega.

Did you mean she's unwell so rarely?

I hope she feels better soon, and that you both get a good night's sleep.

Two tips for fevers. 40C is the point at which I would start considering calling the doctor; a lower temperature which doesn't respond within an hour to reduction measures - stripping, calpol, tepid sponging - is the other point at which I'd think about calling the doctor.

Last time we were called to take Jack from nursery he had a temp of 38.5C and had refused his tea. He was stripped to his vest, and running around the room playing with balloons... He was back at nursery the next day with a slightly runny nose and no temperature, so I hope that for both your sakes Linnea has a fast recovery.
