Let refuse be your watchword

Linnea dried herself off while still in the bath today. And right now she's sitting on the potty while Donkey is wearing her nappy (she refused to wear it herself, and refused to let Donkey wander around unprotected).

After last night's nightmares, she refused to nap today, too, and eventually fell asleep for about half an hour at 17:30. We woke her by hoovering the stairs. She refused to eat dinner.

She has bitten me twice, today, and somehow also bruised my thigh quite painfully. I haven't had time to see whether there's a visible mark there. She has also tucked me up to sleep for her nap (delegation is today's theme, perhaps) and bopped noses with me for several delightful games of Bop, Bop, Bop, Boopsie. She climbed up the slide and down the ladder.

And we passed Sweet Masala on the way home, so we had takeaway for dinner, because I am tired and all this nursing on the floor is bad for my dust allergy and my sinuses needed curry.

I need to get into town soon and buy her more tights, and me more yarn, and possibly her another set of pyjamas, because she has three and none of them are clean and dry at the moment. It's pyjamas weather. I also ought to buy myself and Rob a winter duvet, because it's cold and we currently have the lightest available weight summer one. I don't want to carry it all the way home though. Urgh.

I wonder would a king-size winter duvet fit in my new rucksack? I doubt it somehow. Rucksacks seem to have less volume the higher tech they get.

Do you not have an account at Heelas? One of the multiple benefits is that John Lewis deliver free to account holders, even if its just a small item - a service I've found exceedingly useful over the years. You can phone them up or order in store if its more convenient. Theirs is the only store card for which I've ever found a real use (they also charge lower interest than average but I don't use credit cards for 'credit' IYSWIM, so that doesn't really make much odds to me).

No - I have no income and I haven't managed to make Rob organised enough to fill in the paperwork. They've really been very difficult every time we've tried to organise an account with them - Rob wanted one to buy a TV because they didn't take any other credit cards at the time, and I wanted one more recently to get stuff delivered but they needed him to do all the paperwork and have me as a second cardholder on the account.

That is weird - I already had an account when we had the kids but many of my ante natal friends opened accounts primarily for the nappy deliveries. Those who were not working used their child allowance as the stated income and made no bones about the reason for wanting the accounts (mortgage companies let you use child allowance as well. If they were married, cards could be issue on joint income so long as both parties signed up but it wasn't essential to do it that way. It was more paperwork possibly that the average store card but not much and then I don't approve of the way most store cards are thrown at people with inducements to spend money they don't have.

You can apply for them on line now I think, which may make the paperwork less tedious...

It never occurred to me to use the child benefit as my income. That's Linnea's money, in my head. Though what do I buy at JL... only stuff for Linnea. Mainly her shoes.

It was a building society manager who pointed out to me that CHB is income. We were just moving house after Rachel was born, I said that I was taking nearly a year off and contracting on reduced hours for a couple of years - he rather sweetly assumed I was worried about making the multiplier and advised me that it was valid to add this in to the total income as we had clearly gone through the sums carefully (ie we were not apparently idle and feckless!). Then he looked at the paperwork and saw that the larger income listed was in fact mine, even estimating on reduced hours - I don't think he had dealt with too many IT whores, let alone the female variety. He then said he could see why I could be so sure that I wasn't giving up work...
He was a nice old chap though - doubtless replaced by some online sales person.

Anyways it seems most places regard it as income. Joint bank account statements can help as well - evidence that family income is indeed that rather than in the ownership of one partner.
