Getting older!
Sep. 10th, 2009 10:26 pmToday was Rob's birthday, so we had Toad in the Hole for dinner, and cake. It was lovely and he seemed to like it very much. We had no guests, which I think he also liked.
I've had a look at my Twitter to see what I've been up to; I've had a weird week, mainly due to gynaecology. I'm a misogynaecologist, today.
I've done laundry incredibly slowly. We've also been doing DIY, but it involved a hammer drill, and the neighbour on the other side of the wall was rather upset, so we had to stop. Then Rob had to come home from work at lunchtime the following day to finish the drilling, because the halfway state we were in was unlivable-with. But we bought her a box of Roses chocolate and so the next evening we asked if we could do ten minutes' drilling she was fine with it. We just need to be sure to ask, because it's not funny.
The house we're living in isn't funny right now though; mid-project is an uncomfortable state for a dining-room.
We've seen a lot of
taimatsu and that's been lovely; I think the children are sufficiently comfortable with her that we could leave them to her tender mercies and Rob and I could go out together, perhaps. Er. Not sure what we'd do, mind you.
On Tuesday we had two adults and five children (ages 5, 4 and 2) to dinner. It was magnificent and very loud. Any more people and we'd need the second extra leaf in the table.
Linnea has been doing worksheet maths puzzle thigns and letting me see. Also, today she did some letters, and writing, for Rob's birthday card. And she didn't hide it from me. I have Great Hopes. Emer enjoyed looking at the letters and liked picking out the E for Emer, M for Mountain etc from the piles on the table (Bananagrams).
Emer's drawing has made another leap forward and Linnea's painting looks like it's regressing compositionally but I expect there's something else going on - brush control? - so that's kind of exciting. The best thing in the world is still an unsupervised scissors, and huge secret glue sticks are a close runner-up.
Emer is pretty much using the toilet now, with almost no effort from us (other than helping her as and when she asks; she has some very specific requirements involving steps and special seats and cleaning everything before she uses it and so on). Whaddyaknow, they do it when they're ready. I really wish I hadn't made such massive mistakes with Linnea. Life is hard for the practice baby in this house. We even brought Emer to London with no toilet accidents and no nappies.
The trike may be much less expensive to repair than we feared.
