She hands me things, and releases them when I say "Tata." She may be saying "Tata" to get them back, or she may be babbling excitedly - it's hard to be sure. But wow, she loves this game!

Rob has been a housework demon today. We're catching up on ourselves after Christmas and guests.

I must do a post on xenophobia soon, when I have recovered enough from baby brain to be able to spell it right first time.

Is "tata" like "thank you?"

I've played that game for hours with various babies of my acquaintance. Hand item - "thank you!" - grin grin grin - take back - hand item - "thank you!" - grin grin grin...

It's baby for Thank you. In England, as far as I can tell, it's "Ta" not "tata" but I'm not English.

She da bestest! She loves to eat my hairbrush.

I learned "Ta" as a baby from my English mum, and then was quite shocked when I moved to the UK and found that *adults* actually said "Ta" ;)

YoungBloke picked up "Ta" when I wasn't watching! He says "ta" when you give him something and "ta" when he gives you something. My best friend's daughter did likewise for months - they decided that either she thought everything was called "dadoo" or she though we thought everything was a "dadoo".

It took YB ages to learn actually to let go when he handed you something so his game for ages was to hold something out to you, say "ta" when you put your hand out, then take it away. It's fantastic watching them initiate a game with their rules!

They add to the fun almost daily, I'm amazed most evenings at what new things we've done. Today YoungBloke has huffed in a whistle. That's going to be today's game!
