Brief update
Sep. 6th, 2009 07:52 pmWell, after the glorious morning and early afternoon I had, I posted this post about poo and the rest of the day was hideous.
On Saturday morning we got up, went to the Farmer's Market, bought sausages and coffee and LOTS of apple juice, carried it all to the Civic Centre where we joined the Pride march, in which we were able to borrow a sign for Linnea to hold from her vantage point on my shoulders. The National Front cancelled but it was good fun anyway; my friends seemed pleased to see me there and we waved at several other friends who had come to town to watch it, too.
We peeled off from Pride as it reached the train station and we bought some food and got on the train to London. On the train I finalised arrangements, and we got a bus and tube from Paddington to Bethnal Green, where we met Dave at the Museum of Childhood. The children played with the rocking horses and the sandpit and the puppet shows and the dollhouse and some other things, and I had a good look around the Roald Dahl exhibition and a section of the display which I mentally titled "Toilet Training Through The Ages," which is on-topic around here at the moment. After that Dave walked with us to J&K's flat and we went in to the party! There was food, and hordes of convivial people, and it was lovely to see people again, and we met some new people, and the children sat on a couple of motorbikes, and on several people, and it was great.
As we left the party, we met
liadnan and
pashazade, which was a wholly unexpected delight, and then we got home all four almost asleep and fell into bed.
This morning we got up, and Rob and I showered and then we bathed the girls, including my washing their hair, because London leaves a sort of film on everyone. But we all went there and none of us are ill, so we can do it again! It seems like forever since we felt happy doing that.
After Meeting we went to the playground at King's Meadow and then on to the barbecue, where Rob had his birthday lunch (sausages and ketchup, basically) and the children got very very wet and muddy playing on the bank of the river with the other kids. Linnea ended up changing every stitch she wore and eventually came home wearing Emer's spare knickers and Rob's jumper as a dress. I flew a kite, which Oliver and Linnea really enjoyed, and when the numbers died down a bit we shared out the doughnuts, which were in limited supply but very well-received.
After that Rob and I came home with our children and one extra by bus, for the novelty value, and when we dropped him off again we were invited in for a cuppa, so we made the error of sitting down and stayed sat for aaaages. But we're home again now. The children are having supper, I'm having tea, and we're all tiiiired.
But happy. I'm really quite pleased tomorrow is Monday. It's been very busy.
