New things, old things

It has been a long week. Rob left for Mormor's funeral on Thursday morning, early, with his sister Anna. We've been meaning to invite Anna over for a visit for ages, but had hoped for a a more auspicious occasion.

I have new glasses - not only can I now see better, but they are bendy, baby-proof, and on a baby-proof cord, so she can't get them off me however hard she tries. Yet. The getting of them was a saga which I may tell another day.

My mother has been here to help me in Rob's absence, which is, of course, a lifesaver. She's a doting Nana and a very forbearing home help. We go out, look at things in shops, and go for tea. On Thursday, she came to watch Linnea's swimming lesson, which was fantastic.

Linnea hasn't missed Rob much at all, which I put down to the fact that we said "Bye-bye" at the door on Thursday morning, and everyone knows that bye-bye means back-soon. She is at the pre-crawling stage of getting up on all fours and rocking, then falling forwards a little and doing it again, so she gets places, but not as fast as she'd like.

Rob will be back this evening. I am very glad. Linnea may be quite happy, but I have missed him a lot - particularly at a time when I thought I would be supporting him in his grief.

The funeral was, I am told, very dignified and lovely, and there were a great many mourners, even from outside the family. I wasn't entirely uninvolved, either - two winters ago I wrote all Mormor's addresses into a new address-book, alphabetised and neatly written so that she could contact people more easily, and that book was used to contact people to let them know the funeral date, so I feel a bit useful.

I will leave Rob to tell or not tell the details of the funeral; that's not for me.

Tomorrow my mother goes home again; it has been odd, enjoying having her here while simultaneously missing Rob and mourning Mormor.

She's beside her Evald. She's bound to be happy now.
