Normally, Linnea stops breathing, the alarm on the monitor goes off, startles her, and she starts again.

Today, the alarm went off, and didn't stop. I dashed upstairs, shouting to Rob (who was already upstairs and could get there faster) "The alarm! The alarm!"

He walked out of his office carrying Linnea.

The machine couldn'tdetect her breathing because she wasn't there.

I sat on the stairs and cried.

Much sympathy.

The freaking out I did when I woke one afternoon and found that two-week-old [livejournal.com profile] smallclanger wasn't in bed with me had to be seen to be believed. I was convinced he'd rolled off the bed and was grievously injured or dead, since I couldn't hear any noise from him, not even breathing. It took a couple of minutes to discover that [livejournal.com profile] imc, who had been out, had come home again and taken him downstairs without waking me. He soon learned never to do that again. (I'm getting a mild panicky rush just thinking about that moment now.)

There's a Baby Blues cartoon on the same lines but I can't find it online right now. This one (http://www.babyblues.com/Testing/index.php?formname=getstrip&GoToDay=01/23/03) might give you a slightly relevant smile though.
