Linnea is 9 days old now, and has had three baths. She didn't like the one in hospital given by a midwife, but thoroughly enjoyed the two she had here at home. When we left hospital on Wednesday she had lost 5 oz (approx 140g) and when we weighed her again today we learned that she has gained 9 oz (approx 255g). The midwife is pleased. She's also pleased with how well I'm healing - the bruising is much reduced, and the one burst stitch I have (discovered late last night) isn't going to be a major problem unless it gets infected. Today I maanged to give Linnea a bath and one nappy change, sitting down, as well as feeding her (obviously no-one else can feed her). Rob took another afternoon nap.

We're using cloth nappies and finding them much easier and pleasanter than disposables, though we will use disposables when we leave the house for any length of time - dragging used cloth nappies around with us could get tedious fast, I think, and will need to wait until I'm a lot more able.

Apart from the nappies, Linnea generates a lot less laundry than expected. She uses fewer nappies than we expected, too, but that's probably because she was born later than she should have been - she skipped the newborn nappy-filling stage.

I'm a milch cow, primarily, these days. And Rob continues to be a hero.

We didn't call about coming out this weekend because I'm getting over a cold and G. still has one, so we thought we might wind up giving an unexpected gift that way. Can't wait to see her.

Glad to hear all continues to go well. Being a milch cow can get you down, I am sure, but its the best thing right now. I hope you continue to recover quickly and it sounds like Linnea is doing *wonderfully*!

I'm going to wave the flag for lavender. I had a bath every morning with a few drops in, and I put a couple of drops on every ST, and it made me feel better (as well as smelling lovely). I also found, in the early days, that the easiest way to bath YoungBloke was for me to get in and have a good bath and a laze and then, when the water was a bit cooler, for OldBloke to pass YB in. Lots of fun.

I'm impressed with you going straight to cotton - we started once all the meconium had gone, but alternated for a few days.

You're obviously producing gold-top, with Linnea gaining so fast! I remember feeling like a milch cow (sometimes I still do), but knowing that all that weight gain, all that growth, is all down to you, that's a great feeling!

Stella wants to use cloth as well (and recently bought a bunch of nappies off eBay), but the "disposables when leaving the house for any length of time" sounds like good advice.

If you don't have one, get a breast-pump and some bottles. Expressing a bit extra, or whenever they felt overly full, and then fridging or freezing it, meant I always had bottles of breast-milk available - especially for taking it in turns to do the late/early feeds :) From memory, you can keep breastmilk frozen for up to 28 days.
