I went to buy cards today for some of the mothers in our lives. It was hard work. They all say "Oh Mother dear / and did you hear / how much we all love you / For now we know / You helped us grow / into oak trees tall and true" or "Mummy is a fluffy bunny, we all love her coz she's so yummy" or "Yo da funky momster you am da k3wlest" or similar. Bleagh. I really truly ought to take to writing some of this nauseating stuff and sending it to card companies until one of them decides to pay me.

I usually end up buying a nice plain, no message card, sometimes with flowers or something on it, sometimes something else, and writing my own message. The messages can be pretty nauseating!

They are pretty bad, aren't they? The other problem I've had is that at least three quarters of them seem to be to someone called "Mum", which is no good for me as ours is called "Mam" and we've never called her "Mum" in our lives.

I would *SO* buy a card that said, "Yo da funky momster you am da k3wlest."

There's always blank cards + own message

There once was a woman called mum
Whose day, it had finally come
but not being a bard
I just got a card
To wish to you summum bonum

I've taken to avoiding 'occasion' cards and getting ones without message. I got some nice ones in a museum in Bournemouth that had been made by a local artist, and the National Trust shop has a couple of sets with gorgeous pictures of Trust properties, woods and coastline etc.
