Blood tests and personal endurance
Mar. 20th, 2003 09:38 amI went for my blood tests this morning. It was fine, apart from nearly collapsing in the queue. They're doing a cell count, thyroid test, some other things. The doctor is going to get me a scan appointment to rule out epilepsy, I thinkg (he didn't say epilepsy, but he did ask if I came to after a blackout to find I'd bitten my tongue etc; I can't think of any other kinds of seizures).
I am also working up to working on my essay again. I don't know how Rose does it - I have had to ask for an extension for this one. I can't manage an hour a day studying, let alone get A grades. I used to get A grades, all the time, effortlessly. Now it's not happening. Perhaps I'm just too tired.
I have set myself little targets and am using reward cards - I get a point for every hour of study, and for every assignment I hand in on time. Ten points and I get a treat - probably stationery.
I called HR and told them I'd be back on Monday, and that it was probably stress. They're going to talk to me about it; I'll see how that goes before making any career decisions. I don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Date: 2003-03-20 04:04 am (UTC)He may be trying to rule out narcolepsy or similar (when the body just decides to go into sleep mode shutdown with no warning). I did wonder about that when you described your symptoms, having coped with himself who had it quite badly when younger (including just falling asleep walking down corridors, or cycling his bike, etc when we were at school together), but it does appear to have improved more than somewhat over the years (mostly by stress avoidance, as stress can be a trigger for it).
Here's keeping everything crossed that they can find out what's going on, that it isn't anything too serious, and that they can help you.
