Christmas musings
Nov. 13th, 2002 04:16 pmSo I've been organising for Christmas.
I know, it's not even December yet. Never mind.
I expect to have at least 8, possibly 10, people to dinner on christmas Day. So I have bought new tableware (oooh! kitchen things! oooh!). I have 12 matching place settings, including nasty cheap wineglasses and quite decent Christmas crackers. I have a tablecloth and some serving dishes. I have paper napkins.
I have also bought some of the food - the not-so-perishables, like the non-alcoholic festive drinks (we don't really do wine chez nous, for some reason), fancy chocolate, tins of biscuits, and Kelloggs Variety Pack for Christmas Breakfast.
And there are two cupboards in the house into which Rob is Not Allowed to Look - because they are full of Secrets. I am doing Christmas Stockings for two sets of parents (Rob's and Janice's), Rob, his sister, my sister, and Janice. I have also bought an under-the-tree gift or two.
This is fun. I used to hate - dread, wake up in June with nightmares about - Christmas, but I love it now. Last year was fabulous. This year will also be fabulous.
We're writing Christmas cards gradually. The plan is to have them all written by about 2 December, and post them that week. Then we can start writing the wedding invitations, and hopefully post them in early January. It takes ages - I have RSI, and Rob's handwriting is illegible.
