Job interviews: Waterstones
Feb. 12th, 2002 04:05 pmI am thinking a lot about my job interview with Waterstones bookshop tomorrow morning.
I'm told they'll ask what I'm reading, what my favourite book is, and some other stuff. I don't know what the other stuff is, but I've also been told that having worked in publishing and knowing about orders, returns and so on will be useful to me. I don't know that I am the kind of person who can identify books by being told "It's got a red cover and there was an article about it in the Daily Mail two weeks ago", but that might be because I have never read the Daily Mail.
My favourite book:
- The Bone People, Keri Hulme
- Lotta, Astrid Lindgren
- Friday's Child, Georgette Heyer
- The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis
- The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, Tolkein
- The Dido Twite books, Joan Aitken
- The Kevin and Sadie and the Maggie books, Joan Lingard
- The Seek the Fair Land trilogy, Walter Macken
Current reading:
- The Honorary Consul, Graham Greene
- A Civil Contract, Georgette Heyer (left it in my OU tutor's car and Waterstones don't have another copy! Argh!)
- A collection of essays, title unknown, by Isaac Asimov
