I am mindbogglingly tired. Astrid is showing strong evidence of having been basically a breastfed baby for the last week. She's also making heavy weather of a headcold. We're all cranky, the house is a miserable pit, we've lost Astrid's winter boots, Linnea never wants to get dressed and go out, Emer won't wear her new glasses because people keep talking about how they look (everyone wants to assure her they look good; she doesn't want to look DIFFERENT from usual and she - and I - wish everyone would stop telling her how pretty they are). I'm sick to the back teeth of my Monthly Cycle (monthly! Ha!) and can't remember how to be the kind of energetic, enthusiastic mother Linnea had at Astrid's age.

On the other hand, the A1 Venn diagram of foods they like is coming along nicely.

why did you give the small person a name like "emer"

that's a lot to ask of a child

Why do you think it's appropriate to complain about strangers' choices of names for their children?

The most I can do is observe. If that offends you, I apologise. If my comment based on observation offends you - again - I apologise.

You didn't observe. You asked a question of a fairly personal nature. I asked you why you thought it was appropriate to do so.

Do you think it appropriate to ask, say, a Maori parent why they chose a Maori name for their child, and then "observer" that it is "a lot to ask of a child"?

I fail to see why one of the more frequently appearing names in the child's heritage is "a lot to ask of a child".
