08:00 As Rob was leaving the house this morning, Linnea woke unhappy, so I went in to her - leaving Emer asleep in my bed - and found that she didn't like the sunshine. So I closed her curtain and turned on her light, which was fine. She and I lounged around for a bit and Emer came to find us; "I woke up in you bed," she said, "ad I coulden fide you!"

I lay on the bed in their room while they played, and then we all had a cuddle, and then we got up properly and opened the curtains and each got dressed after our own fashion.

09:00 Linnea asked for porridge with a jam smiley face on it, for her breakfast, and Emer had porridge and milk. She doesn't like jam.

After breakfast they menaced and found some whistles and blew them at me repeatedly in an aggressive manner. I received email so unusual I needed to ask [livejournal.com profile] radegund about it, which meant I realised my mobile was out of power and I had to phone her; Linnea blew her big metal police whistle from a party bag in my ear so I threatened to burn it. I was more or less able to speak while she thought about that one.

12:00 We assembled shoes and hats and bags and went to the library, which is closed on a Wednesday. And then on to the co-op to buy fruit. Strawberries and grapes and plums and cherries and satsumas, and tinned peaches and pineapple.

13:00 On the way home Maria waved at us so we went in and opened the strawberries and the ham (to my children, these are a natural mix - not, I assure you, to me). We had tea, and the children played in the garden with a very tiny and extremely wet paddling pool.

14:45 We popped home to drop off our groceries and collect the rollerskates before going to chez Portico, and I checked my email, and found a message to bring swimsuits for the paddling pool. So we spent some time finding those and doing sunscreen and things, and then headed off and spent the rest of the afternoon there; the children got into swimsuits but found the paddling pools too cold, really, and perhaps intimidatingly large (Argos sell the large one as a swimming pool). It's ages since I've seen them for more than a second at a time, and it's awing how much older children get, so quickly.

They are all under 13 and two of them are bigger'n me.

18:00 Anyway, after tea and talking I went through bags of clothes and took things for everyone, more or less, and then Rob came and we very slowly went home. We had beans and rice for dinner, with redcurrants and cream for dessert.

20:00 Rob put both children in the bath and I washed their hair. Then we dried them and I sat Emer on the table and tried to show her her teeth in a mirror. She did let me brush them for a bit before she fought me. So that's progress. The other thing is, I'm almost sure that the pitting is about the same but the discolouration is less, and the worst one no longer hurts at all. This may all be wishful thinking but it feels like progress to me. 9 days to her dentist appointment.

22:00 Both children have had their it's too hot wakefulness and are in bed now. With any luck, that will be it.
