I got some stuff done today.

I've finally turned my radio alarm clock back on and so I was awake and functioning by the time Astrid woke up. I was even awake a little before she woke, so I was able to read to Emer. I woke between Emer and Astrid, as I have for several days now; at some point Emer arrives by my bed asking to come in "for snuggle." Then I gradually lose the use of my arms.

The dining table was clear this morning, so I was unstressed enough to eat. I rattled through vast vast quantities of laundry and kitchen-clearing, though not much until after M had popped around to deliver a baby-carrier for me to send to my newest nephew, currently being a poorly prem baby in SCBU.

Then I screamed and roared and fought with Linnea because, I think, I have PMS and she has a sore ear and a big tonsil - I might take her to a doctor, actually, because for her to complain of pain is unusual.

We eventually ate lunch and left the house, and we posted a couple of things; a painting I've sold and the parcel for my nephew. Then we trundled in to the Broad Street Mall and I made the kids use the loo before we went shoe-shopping in TK Maxx. It was grim but successful. Crocs and Birkenstocks for Linnea, one pair of each, total price under £15. Incredibly boring slogging around looking for plastic cereal boxes followed, but I did see a bay tree. Apparently a bay tree costs £35. I want one, but not a roundy one.

In John Lewis Cafe I had coffee and walnut cake, probably laden with dairy products, but I won't feel the effects until at least tomorrow morning, so who cares? it was scrumptious. And we met [livejournal.com profile] taimatsu on the way home, and she stayed for dinner.

Linnea, Emer and I made Rice Crispie Snap Bars, or something - flapjack type things with chocolate coating, using Rice Crispies instead of oats. They were nice, but Linnea wasn't focussed enough to be anything other than infuriating, and I wasn't patient enough to be anything other than infuriated, so it was a bit strange. We had tinned soup for dinner, with defrosted bread. Technically food, I suppose.

When Rob got home I fled to a friend's, where I had the idea there was a book club meeting, but that's next week, so I just asked if I could stay anyway. I left with a jacket, but no phone or wallet or keys or anything. Zoom. Kissed the baby goodbye and off I went. Phew. I needed it; I should do it more often.

And as a side-effect I borrowed some DVDs and retrieved our carseat. So that was nice.

I have a bay tree - we planted it just outside the kitchen door and it now seems way too big for the space it's in. Dunno if bay trees can be propagated from cuttings, but if so and if anyone could do the job, you'd be very welcome to take a few. I'm not entirely sure how far out of London you are though or in which direction so it may not be a sensible suggestion at all.

Obviously I don't know Linnea well, but that sounds to me like the description of a kid who's immune system if fighting off something :(

Poor you. Poor her!

We have a new(ish) TK Maxx in Crewe which I haven't been in yet - maybe I will work up the courage having read about your success!

The round bay tree will not remain round for very long, unless it's trimmed something ferocious.

That said, you should be able to get one for less than that from a garden centre or the like.

I think it's hilarious that you have T.K. Maxx stores - while in the US, it's called T.J. Maxx. Why the change? So odd.

And my daughter has been *impossible* lately - so you have my sympathies.
