Plans

Yesterday I bought Nation and I enjoyed it very much though the very very end was slightly disappointing. Today I've done laundry and cleaned up babies and served breakfast.

Last night Emer slept for six hours straight all in a row. I'm hoping it's the beginning of the end of the sleep pattern we all hated. I woke up anxious, of course, and couldn't quite get back to sleep again, about 4:30 am. But she was fine.

Today we are staying at home until Rob comes back from work with his wallet containing my grocery account card. There's a lot to do at home, between children and housework and art and making lots of noise and so on, so we shan't be bored.

Clearly I need to work out some sort of nappy retention device.

The forecast said no rain. I've just hung a load of nappies on the line, and two loads of clothes. The children are happily drawing with chalk on the patio (you have no idea how posh I thought a patio was when I was a child). And the air feels heavy and damp and cool and there are navy blue, grey and purple clouds lowering overhead. If we only had a moor, it'd be a Brontë sky (If we only had a moor, the little-known number from The Wizard of Id the musical, perhaps?).

On the other other hand I've brought in a load of dry bedding for my bed, and lots of clothes, which I now have to put away.

I think I need a new Chorewars team. One with more people with children on it. My housework burden is just way way way over what anyone else in my party does.

Stuff

I have 2kg of marrow and I will stuff it. Probably with beans and lentils and chickpeas and garlic.

I also have two red bell peppers and I will stuff them with rice and things.

I need to work out what to do with quinoa.

And I must bake a cake - probably a Mary Berry's Bara Brith - for the True Food tea party on Tuesday.

And I've ordered half a mutton from Sheepdrove Organic, who have a few things on special - half price chicken, whole and half muttons at bargain rates, etc.

I only hope there's room in the freezer.

Sometimes it's difficult and infuriating and lonely, but usually, it's nice. We look after each other. We work hard not to be nasty when things are tough. We apologise, when we fail miserably and are horrible to each other. We own up when we catch ourselves being less than honest.

We work at this stuff, and in the past few years there have been a fair few difficult bits of stuff to work at. But we work at them together, and it mostly works out.

I got to read Nation before he did, but that was because I cheated and bought it when he wasn't looking.
