A birthday, a first day
May. 1st, 2006 10:19 pmSo the birthday was yesterday. It was overall good - we had a lovely waking, the three of us together, and people came to the party, though several people cancelled and at least two had forgotten ever receiving invitations until we reminded them late in the day. The cake was kind of weird and the food was late and rushed because we kept waiting to see if other people would show up, but Linnea and the other toddlers seemed to enjoy it and Rob and I were very glad to see some of our friends again.
We were exhausted though. And then last night Linnea woke screaming with teething pain; she actually fought us off and ran away from the pain, down the hall. I managed to pin her down and force teething gel onto her gums - as soon as it took effect she was calmer, though she still refused point blank to attempt to swallow paracetamol or ibuprofen. We got her back to sleep in the end; I sang and made up stories and Rob brought cups of ice-water and she dropped off clinging to me. After that she slept almost eight hours uninterrupted and woke cheerful.
We had fun today; the weather was good enough to set up her new sandpit playtable outside, so we went out and got some plastic chairs to go with it - but before that we went swimming in the pool that does waves. And she had a nap in the trike. And we had a lot of fun looking in camping shops; we got a tiny little picnic table, because it's easier to picnic with a toddler if there's a flat surface on which to lay the food. It's summer, so I've transferred the nappy bag equipment to the picnic rucksack, because it has an insulated compartment for food, and I intend for me and Linnea to eat out as much as possible. With luck we can meet Rob for picnic lunches and things.
