I threw an absolute hissy fit at bedtime when I found that they'd trashed their room, making the floor impassable without walking on things, and I picked it up while Astrid cried in the bouncy chair instead of reading them a bedtime story. In mitigation, they had told me several times that their room was tidy, and although I think Astrid cried for about a million years, by the clock it was a very few minutes and I was right there talking to her the whole time.
Then I left the girls' room, closed the door (rare, usually they have it ajar for the landing light), and fed Astrid to sleep in my bed.
Then I went back in, bade the girls goodnight civilly, made a bed in a basket for Emer's Noktok toy, told Linnea that laying her head down on the pillow might be more effective than sitting up in bed and counting sheep, and left again, this time leaving their door ajar.
And then I cleared and swept the floors downstairs, re-ran the washing machine on the load from earlier (not sure why it didn't come clean, may just have been too filthy), and cleared the kitchen. While I boiled the kettle I prepped tomorrow's breakfast; in the morning I can tip the measured water onto the measured oats and microwave it, so that I don't need to be numerate while asleep.
