Yesterday at the swimming pool I asked the woman at the desk whether they sold any swim socks because Linnea got verrucas last term. She said no, but once you've had verrucas you can never get them again, like chicken pox.

(I was sufficiently gobsmacked that I didn't want to compound the issue by saying I'd had chickenpox three times).

I'm betting she knows nothing about HPV, or even that it's what almost always causes "verucas"

I'd never seen that word before you used it recently. Fascinating.

And people believe such strange things. I wonder what it is that I believe that's strange/wrong?

So verrucas are what I call plantar warts.

A. It's not true. (Although I guess you can't tell whether a later outbreak is because of already having the virus or because of being exposed again.)

B. So she doesn't mind if Linnea spreads them to everyone else at the pool?

How would she explain the fact that I got verrucas persistently over the space of five or six years, then? :o/

Plantar warts (verrucas) certainly DO recur. They are not pleasant and not easily removed as you already know. I would keep looking for swim shoes or socks elsewhere.

Hhahahahahahah haha hahahah. Hahahahha.

*heddesk*

PS- My Mum had had chicken pox six times. When Tom had shingles last year we didn't see her for six weeks, just in case.

What on EARTH. Yes, clearly all common childhood problems are a one time only deal. Up to and including head lice.
