Our DWCon

We arrived on Thursday, ate bar food, met people, registered, had to argue a bit about our non-dairy non-soy dinners, used the pool, sat around, chatted, all that.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday were broadly similar.

I had a lovely lovely time. Attending a con with a newborn is sort of enforcedly chilled-out. Also, since one is up all night with a baby anyway, doing this while chatting to wonderful people is like extra bonus win.

I really, really wish I'd realised years ago that the Cool People are actually just people and I'm allowed to talk to them, and that I'd regret it if I didn't manage it. I hardly spoke to Antti Lehtola at all, for example. I'm trying to get over myself enough to talk to people I want to talk to, these days. Even if I'm a bit scared of them.

(I spoke to three people I'm a bit scared of, this con, and I'm glad I did. Slightly worried I made a fool of myself, but glad I tried).

Next time, I hope to be in a state or stage of family-creation which allows for dancing all night. And I'll make sure Rob reads the programme ahead of time, so he can do some fanly things too. And I might put a lot more effort into arranging kid stuff; we should have taken them for a walk around the lake, at the very least.

It's always wierd seeing how other people see us. Cool or not, scary or not, happy or not, together or not - the world looks really different through someone else's filters.
