I really am sitting around doing nothing much today, I think; it's probably to do with [livejournal.com profile] radegund and family having gone away and leaving a mix of anticlimactic ennui and vast peaceful spaces behind. Since I last posted I've put a plaster on Emer's foot - she fell and skinned the crease behind her toes - and got myself dressed. Oh, and again with the laundry, and I put the spare room back to single-sofa-bed status.

For my next trick I need to get lunch, but I also need to dress the children, and I've been thinking about clothes.

While she was here, [livejournal.com profile] radegund remarked that I had an actual outfit on one day. I think I'm beginning to learn about them. It's kind of tricky; clothes don't come naturally to me, and I've always resented spending money on them or wasting time shopping for them when I need them but would rather be doing almost anything else.

[personal profile] biascut once told me, somewhere on LJ, that she buys things in sales. Not necessarily because she has a list of things she needs, but because she looks at things in sales and buys what seems good value that she knows she will use. I started doing a bit of that, and suddenly I have outfits.

I have two pairs of jeans which more or less fit (quite good going), and I've been layering tops of different lengths, so I have long sleeveless dresses with short flared-sleeve tops over them, for example. I have some jewellery which I sometimes wear, especially the stuff babies like to play with (they like my spiky leaf-necklace so much it's gone entirely as far as I can tell).

I'm giving a yellow top a final try today; I think it's ok, but it has 3/4 sleeves and the cuff doesn't give room for my muscles.

I often feel guilty that I don't take pains with what I wear. I like to wear clothes that don't make me notice them. For me, that usually means jeans and a t-shirt, with a long sleaved shirt thrown over.

A couple of weeks ago, we were at Mike's home town and the K-Mart there was selling a bunch of casual clothes for $2. They had some light-weight trousers that zipped but have a pull-string waist, and I got three pair. I've never had so many trousers!

How do you handle the mixed LJ/DW user icons and journal links in the same entry? Do you hand-code one or the other (or both), or do you have something that does the right thing somehow? (And if so, how?)

I suppose that means you posted the entry on Dreamwidth and used its built-in cross-posting feature to post it here, and that the cross-poster did the appropriate magic?

My fashion statement: Jeans or moleskins. T-shirt/long-sleeved shirt. Hoodie/sweatshirt/jersey. I have formal clothes, but they feel like dress-up. I clearly fail as an adult, and especially as a woman.
