Snooze
Emer can't nap in the afternoons but sometimes keels over in the early evenings and is then up all night. Also, Rob's nose spray is empty and so his snoring has woken me and Emer for four nights running.
Kews
We spent Sunday at Kew Gardens with mum and Dave. We went to see Queen Charlotte's wendy house, for picnics in the garden -- Linnea was bewildered -- and had lunch in the Orangery and came home on a train with a strange man who was delighted by the children but made his excuses and left a few stops early (we saw him disembark at Reading but distracted the girls before they mugged him). They had a marvellous time playing with his ipod and showing him their sunglasses and books.
Afterwards Linnea said "I hope he comes back - he's a nice man and he won't steal me."
Sandals
Rob has new sandals from the same people as my old sandals and they are a revelation to his toesie woesies. He's delighted. I'm sure they'll be better for his back, too.
Shoes
The children's new shoes are holding up nicely and I desperately need to sort out their old shoes for storage/charity.
Sewing
Mum has mended various things, including my byoooootiful Laura Ashley bedding which Linnea vented her scissor compulsion on. Having had a scissor compulsion myself at one point I sympathise even while enraged. She has a fair idea she oughtn't, and we've hung the scissors out of reach.
Paddle
Emer and I inflated and washed the paddling pool today. It's almost that time of year!
Grub
Rob cooked the most marvellous and magnificent Variation On A Theme With Haddock this evening. He had haddock, and the Good Housekeeping Cookbook, and he was able to adapt a recipe for spiced haddock to go with things we had in the pantry. Emer napped through dinner and then refused to eat the leftovers until I presented them nicely in a rectangular dish from which she served herself; basically, she found the meal more appealing when it looked deliberate rather than left over.
Mum's here until Friday, we think.

grub
Date: 2009-05-26 09:31 pm (UTC)that's really fascinating -- i wonder whether it's an aesthetic thing, or something more utilitarian.
