Steam heat

The condensing boiler has a drain pipe to deal with the condensation. That was fruz up. The boiler had filled with water and very sensibly refused to light under those circumstances. It took one half-hour unit of labour to clear up and this afternoon Rob will pop down to Wickes to buy pipe lagging and then it won't happen again. The boiler man said he COULD do it but would be charging Corgi-registered plumbing-god type rates for what is really a handyman DIYer type job, so it wasn't worth it. I like that in a tradesperson.

In other news, I have been unable to buy Linnea a bright, warm winter coat which will also cover her bum, because I don't want a pink one with snotcatching funfur around the hood. I'll keep looking. I wish I'd ordered one of those children who doesn't grow during winter. She doesn't LOOK any taller but her clothes keep getting shorter. Neat trick.

We had the exact same problem with our condenser boiler (but had a British Gas service contract so thankfully did not have to pay to get it sorted, but we did have to go and buy our own pipe lagging as well!)

Yikes on the time - am spoilt by the British Gas contract I suspect. Its £15 a month but the guy was there on the 27th for a good 3 hours (wee bit more than a frozen overflow) so I got my money's worth!

Who fitted the boiler for you?.. in a country that is known for frequent freezing weather in winter, I would hazard a claim for either negligence in fitting or not of merchantable quality could be made..

I presume you looked at boys' coats too?

How would grey be? Asda have one in the boys section which is cleverly shaped to be longer at the back and even covers DS' bum when he's bending over playing? It's not as warm as i'd like, but is lightweight enough that layering isn't too bulky.

Asda also have a red, white and blue one which I would have liked for L, but they didn't have it in his size.

I think the grey one is exactly the same coat just in the bigger size - the red/white/blue seemed to go to about age 3-4 and then the grey in the bigger sizes. They seem to be generously sized though. ('Tis actually the blue one DS has and i was looking longingly at the grey rather but they didn't have it small enough).

Yep, definately the grey! No way the red/blue/white went anywhere near that size.

I bought Anson a pair of jeans a month ago, with the express purpose that they be long enough.

He put them on two days ago, and the cuffs were above his ankles.

What does Linnea want? Is she anti-pink too? Ayesha is not yet showing any preferences much, but I am beginning to hate the pink *everything* that is out there these days.

A working boiler is a marvellous thing.

The phrase "snotcatching funfur" is curiously engrossing (ahaha, pun not intended, actually, but now it's there I'll happily take credit).
