My Yegg

A boiled egg is a mini-adventure.

Boil it. Juggle it out of a pan with teaspoons and tip it into the eggcup.

Everyone has their own way of opening it - Linnea likes to tap the very top and peel back the cracked shell. I tap a tonsure and scalp it, leaving me two parts to scoop out. Emer looks at it in confusion and plunges her spoon straight in, mixing the shell with the -- oooh, exciting! -- runny yolk.

Then I open Emer's egg and scoop out the insides into a bowl, keeping the yeyyow and the white separate. She eats the white while I eat my first egg, and then I open my second egg, and she says "Me eat dat."

"Hmm?"

"Doo eat my yeyyow, me eat doo white."

So I eat her yolk, and the yolk of my second egg, and she eats the white.

The best part is probably waiting to see whether the yolks will be runny or not. Today, the children had runny yolks, but mine sat uncracked just long enough to solidify while I dealt with the children's eggs.

Mmm, yegg.

Last week I cut the sandwiches in little triangles instead of big triangles. I am the spawn of Satan incarnate.

I have very good memories of being pre-school age and my dad making me egg and toast when he got up very early in the morning for work.

Oh! I LOVE soft boiled eggs. Emer and I would make good breakfast partners as I love the yolks and she loves the whites. We would have a great time! :)

I wouldn't be able to cope. I like the whites and hate the yolks, especially runny yolks. We'd have to make enough yeggs for everyone to have enough whites.

oh I can eat the spare hot runny yolks, so long as I have marmite soldiers made with thin brown bread.

Runny white on the other hand is far too much like snot for my liking.

R just eats the toast, the egg is rejected. I too am a failure as a parent. I got to eat her egg when we did that last... ;)

I too am a failure as a parent as T so far declines to eat egg in any form.

Mmmmmmm I love boiled eggs, especially runny eggs. I want some for breakfast tomorrow now but I have neither eggs nor time enough to eat them in the morning (woe woe is me for I am a shift worker some of the time).

Wow! Your honeymoon beats mine, but then our tent did collapse on the 3rd day and my dreams of lovely friendly island communities were completely and utterly shattered so it doesn't take much!

Rather than juggle teaspoons, I one day had a flash of brilliance and since then I have fished my eggs from their bath with a spaghetti spoon (http://www.quality-homeware-kitchen.savingsareon.co.uk/50805.html). Then we have toast fingers. (We are also pacifists. No soldiers around here except the ex-soldier husband.)

Ahhh, I don't do the eggcup part. We are heathens, we eat our eggs on regular plates. Of course, we don't ever actually have them so soft that they need to be stood up so that toast fingers can be dipped. No one in our family likes liquid yolk. Sorry!

Well blah, now I'm failing at being orthodox in two different belief structures.
