New Boots

We struggled out of the house - both children still not eating properly - and staggered to town to buy boots. The kids were a bit unsettled and cranky so I offered them the chance to go on the bus, which they accepted as a huge treat (which it is, it's £3 return to town now, £1.70 single; a train ticket is 90p single and walking is free, it's only just over a mile to the middle of town) so we waited in the bus shelter. When the bus arrived there were a fair few people in the queue and the driver shook his head sadly at my buggy, so I asked the people behind us to get on ahead and tell him I was folding and ask him to wait. And so we got on; Linnea held Emer's hand and took her down the bus, and I paid and got the buggy and the bag on board. The bus moved before they sat down so I told them to sit on the floor, and the woman who had been sitting in the buggy spot stood up and my two sat on her seat, which was ok, ish.

We got off at the other end and walked to John Lewis to buy Linnea new winter boots. And we found a few styles we liked and a fitter to help us.

Sure enough Linnea's feet were measuring larger - 10G now - and the fitter trotted off to find things.

We tried plum leather ones which were too tight on the calf, pink suede ones which were too loose on the instep (but only just tight enough on the ball of her foot), plain brown ones which weren't actually available in her size unless we took some with a broken zip, short purple ones with great dangly suede flowers which were too wide at the heel, and an absolutely perfect wine-coloured pair in leather and suede which were ideal except for the inner heel support which was right spang on her anklebone.

Some others were rejected as they only went up to an F width.

Eventually she got some Kickers, but the red and the pink were sold out in her size, so she has some lovely navy blue boots for winter, which is very sensible. The Kickers brand is on a sort of leather tag in the shape of a flower, so she's keeping that on.

I bought boith children slippers, too. To make up for the sensible, tough, sturdy, excellently grippy, navy blue boots, Linnea was delighted with fluffy cream slippers with glitter, ribbons, and butterflies in pink. Emer's have a pig theme and make an oinking sound.

The slippers sound fab :) I always buy mine boots each winter from clarks & decided to get some from Next this year, as they preferred them. Typically, Clarks now have gorgeous dark purple ones that would have been properly fitted. I compromised over the Next boots as their main shoes are always fitted, though they do both have clarks leather shoes too.

These *are* the main winter shoes; shoes in summer and boots in winter seems to be how it works here. I can't buy Linnea Clarks as her feet are the wrong shape, which is a pain. Emer can be ok in Clarks sometimes though.

Kate has black school shoes & Holly still fits into her winter shoes from earlier in the year as her feet haven't grown yet.
