Wanting not to be mentally ill does not cure mental illness. It's probably essential to being cured, but that makes it a necessary condition of cure, not sufficient to cure the illness of itself. Very, very few people with mental illnesses (broad, outdated category that it is) are enjoying themselves most of the time. That's what the "illness" part means.
So take your "just use willpower" and write a self-help book with it. Who knows, you could make millions.
