Rob - who is, as has been mentioned before, fabulous - last night very patiently fixed my keyboard, lovingly disassembled by Linnea with Emer's willing but unskilled assistance before DWCon. They did help me reassemble it but I don't have the patience with inanimate objects Rob has and I reached a point where I wanted to hammer the keys with a mallet until they bent to my will. Bent keys aren't helpful.
So today I was able to type up another assignment for my breastfeeding course. I think I have three more to do.
And I came out to my sister G as a home-educator. She was concerned that Linnea's social life would suffer but ten minutes' chat about her own social experience at primary school sorted out that little misunderstanding quite nicely (she, like me, was the smallest, one of the youngest, and the brightest in her class - this is not a good place to be in a normal primary school). I explained that the major difference between Linnea's social life here and in school would be that Linnea would not be required to spend significant time with people who bullied her. I may be bitter.
(Rob has taken the children to his parents' for the day. I'm at home with a pile of coursework and a slight fever, probably Con Crud).

Date: 2008-09-01 01:57 pm (UTC)Home educating has the potential to be enormously better than schools because of the benefits of tailoring your teaching (or un-teaching) methods to the needs of your kids. And the potential to be a disaster onna stick if the parent(s) abuse the child (school at least puts the child in contact with adults the child can complain to about the parent(s)). I worry about the extent to which home educators are inspected... of course inspection is a problem when the inspectors have a Rigid View on what constitutes "an education" which is crappy.
