Sleep: Emer: Rapid return: Night two

About a quarter to nine she asked for a feed, so I asked if she'd like it in bed, and she agreed, so we went up. Rob found a book. I read her a story, Rob kissed her goodnight, and I fed her until the feed was really truly over, at five past nine. Then Rob rapid returned her a few times. She was asleep within 8 minutes of my leaving the room.

Oh. My. God. Is this true?

Child gets out of bed, carer returns child to bed kindly but firmly. The point is to do it fast enough and consistently enough that the child doesn't think there's a chance of getting anywhere, like out the door, yet another drink of water, etc, because even a very tired child will often stay awake if they think there's a potential game around, and if there's no hope of that, it's cruel to tease them with the possibility.

I can't believe it worked so easily. We did it twice to Linnea - once when she wasn't ready for it, so she got upset so we stopped, and once when she was, and it worked. I was quite ready to need to have several attempts to find out whether Emer was ready for it.

How cool :) I'm always amazed at how easily mine slip into new, consistent routines (mostly!) Bedtimes are now a bit awquard as I have to factor in dog walking & walk him later than I would have chosen as it's been so hot. It is overcast today, so an earlier walk may be feasible.
