Rob has successfully negotiated slightly altered working hours specifically citing ordinary family commitments (at least one meal a day with the children!) and an unwillingness to regularly do unpaid overtime.
Fantastic! Flexible working for the win. Not doing stupid hours even better. More people who start doing it, the more who will get easier opportunities to do it...
Has he ever thought of asking about compressed hours? Or would 'they' say no straight away to that? According to the govt they must have a "good business reason" to turn you down.
Yes, absolutely! I also advocate flexibility for disability-rights reasons too, so many of us can work, just not in inflexible ways. It's even better for the economy to have flexible working and sensible working hours - productivity goes up when hours are reduced to 30-35!

Date: 2008-05-02 11:02 pm (UTC)I was at the local pool today. There's no way to get to the viewers gallery with a wheelchair. I was, briefly, livid.
I wonder some days how much rage one body can sustain. I think hate might be more tiring still, though.
