Ethical Consumerism: Flying and Frying
Feb. 25th, 2008 09:16 pmI was wandering around town today looking at saucepans (I love Le Creuset colours but need saucepans I can lift) and I realised that because it's not something I buy very often, I have absolutely no idea whether saucepan-making is a hideously exploitative industry which is ruining vast tracts of virgin jungle or perfectly benign, only ruining or exploiting the wealthy developed world. Luckily, I didn't see anything I wanted to buy, so I didn't have to decide whether this mattered or not.
Also, we are flying all the way to Gotland, because we didn't book train tickets early enough to get them for less than £1500. So now we need to look at carbon offsetting. And we don't get to see huge bits of European landscape, nor sleep in a sleeper car. Bah.
