This afternoon Emer fell backwards off a dining chair onto a wood-laminated concrete floor. Brief silence, much crying. Occasional screaming. Brave smiles, then more crying. She was still crying loudly more often than not about 45 minutes later. Then she fell asleep. I prised one eye open. Nothing. I prised the other eye open. Nothing. I shouted at her. Nothing. I shouted her name half a dozen times. Nothing. I shook with panic. That didn't help either.
I handed her over to my friend while I phoned the doctor and Emer woke up crying miserably.
The doctor told us to take her to A&E so we did. Just after arriving in the waiting room, she got better - her body stopped being floppy and unresponsive, her coordination improved, she was able to stand. By the time we saw the triage nurse Emer was well. The doctor was nice and warned me that a bit of vomiting after a bop like that is normal, and gave me the usual Head Injuries leaflet.
I just wish she could take baby paracetamol for the pain. I can't get her to take liquid medicines. I might try giving her half an adult paracetamol in pill form.

Date: 2008-02-20 07:53 pm (UTC)(I'm guessing you already know about infant paracetamol suppositories? In case you don't ... you can get them over the counter at a pharmacist. They're not cheap, but then you only use them when you really feel you have to. They were a godsend for us when **FIXME had a terrible fever and couldn't keep anything down.)
