House meme
Jan. 20th, 2008 01:19 pm- When you walk in your front door, which room do you enter?
- Very very narrow front hallway. Really very narrow indeed.
- Do you have a dishwasher?
- Yes! All hail the great labour- and water-saving device!
- Is your living room carpeted or does it have hardwood floors?
- One's bare floorboards, with cracks, and one's carpeted. I don't know whether either of them is the living room. We live in the whole downstairs. We don't eat in the library; does that make it the living room?
- Do you keep your kitchen knives on the counter or in a drawer?
- Um. They are supposed to live in a drawer, with child lock, but there's often a breadknife on the counter with the bread.
- House, apartment, duplex or trailer?
- Mid-terrace house.
- How many bedrooms is it?
- Three. And there's no way to convert the attic to another bedroom without basically turning the entire rear of the roof into a dormer, which I think is hideous.
- Gas stove or electric?
- Gas.
- Do you have a yard?
- We have a front patch barely large enough for the dustbins, and a back garden just a wee tad bigger than that.
- What size TV is in the living room?
- Massive. 32" LCD, I think. Vast.
- Are your plates in the same cupboard as your cups?
- The plates are in a wall-mounted rack so we never have to dry up. The cups are on a shelf. I hate cupboards; Rob can't remember to close them so I always hit my head on the doors, just above my eye level.
- Is there a coffee maker sitting on your kitchen counter?
- Yes, a Swedish made filter coffee maker we inherited from Rob's English grandparents via his aunt.
- What room is your computer in?
- The dining room.
- Are there pictures hanging in your living room?
- There's a whole load of children's paintings everywhere except the library, where there's a Roethke print and a few colour copies of book covers.
- Are there any themes found in your home?
- Not to my knowledge. But other people have spotted a "yellow" theme, a "books" theme, and a "jugs" theme.
- What kind of laundry detergent do you use?
- Eco Balls! Clean nappies FTW! We have Ecover wool wash for delicates.
- Do you use dryer sheets?
- We have no dryer.
- Do you have any curtains in your home?
- Yes; the three front windows have muslin curtains and light-blocking curtains, and the two rear-facing bedrooms have the same. There's a never-used blind in the bathroom which I intend to remove at some stage. The dining room is rear-facing so it has no curtains at all.
- What color is your fridge?
- White.
- Is your house clean?
- It's not squalid, but it's definitely got a layer of surface dirt we intend to eradicate today.
- What room is the most neglected?
- The spare room, where we dump stuff we can't find space or time to put away.
- Are the dishes in your sink/dishwasher clean or dirty?
- Clean. And the cutlery is all over the bottom of it. Bah.
- How long have you lived in your home?
- Five years? Ish?
- Where did you live before?
- A flat in Wapping, London, which was ok, but we had way, way too much stuff. Now, of course, we have even more stuff. We're working on this.
- Do you have one of those fluffy toilet lid covers on your toilet?
- Ew. Absolutely not.
- Do you have a scale anywhere in your house?
- We have a bathroom scales and a kitchen scales.
- How many mirrors are in your house?
- Two in the bathroom, one in the dining room, one on the recently scavenged cupboard in the spare room, and one on the wall of the children's corner. Also, a few hand-held ones. 4 semi-permanent ones.
- Look up. What do you see?
- A painting Linnea did of Emer, the lightshade, that weird "cover the cracks" effect ceiling plaster, white.
- Do you have a garage?
- No. We have a shed.
